A Chicago bicyclist was killed and a pedestrian seriously injured after they were the victims of an accident caused by the operator of a motor vehicle. The collision happened late last night near 14th Street and Kostner Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on Chicago's West Side. According to reports, the bicyclist was a 55-year old man and the pedestrian was a 45-year old man who were struck by the vehicle. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital and the pedestrian was taken there for treatment as well.

No other details are available, other than the fact that charges were pending against the driver. Given the this motor vehicle crash involved a fatality to the bicyclist and serious injuries to the pedestrian, the Chicago Police Department's Major Accidents Investigation Unit will investigate this incident. A photograph taken by Alexandra Chachkevitch of the Chicago Tribune shows severe damage to the entire front end of the vehicle and significant damage to the windshield. Windshield damage of this nature typically occurs when a person is struck, thrown onto the hood, and then their body damages the window.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by this tragedy.
